Old elk sour mash reserve
Old Elk sour mash reserve Distillery made their first splash on the booming whiskey scene with Gold recognition in the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Following the success of that straight bourbon, Old Elk also added offerings of a straight rye whiskey, straight wheat whiskey, and straight wheat bourbon. Each of these offerings has earned some form of recognition at a variety of spirits competitions. In 2021, Old Olk added to that award-winning lineup with a Sour Mash Reserve Bourbon based on their high-malted barley bourbon mashbill (51% corn, 34% malted barley, and 15% rye).
Old elk sour mash reserve review
This first batch of Sour Mash Reserve was distilled in New York and is a blend of 30 barrels aged 6 years utilizing a proprietary yeast blend. The magic of this expression is in fermentation. The contrast in the flavor profile results from a change in yeast strain as well as the geographic location of the distillery.
