The Pittyvaich 1992 Prima & Ultima 30 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is an exceptional and rare expression that embodies the legacy of the Pittyvaich distillery. Matured in two Pedro Ximénez/Oloroso butts, this whisky offers a rich and nuanced character. This release marks the final Pittyvaich 30 year old, commemorating the last casks filled before the distillery closed. With only 609 bottles made, it is a highly prized item for collectors and whisky enthusiasts.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: A mellow, drying nose with no real prickle. Notes of red fruits such as redcurrants, cherries, and raspberry jam, complemented by ripe banana and a dry trace of wine. A hint of chocolate emerges at reduced strength.
Palate: Soft, creamy-smooth texture with a lightly sweet taste and sherried fruitiness. Mid-palate reveals a pinch of salt, soon turning tannic, dry, and spicily warming. Water increases the spice while thinning the taste.
Finish: Medium length, fruity with a dry, slightly peppery spicy kick. Similar with water, but the aftertaste becomes more nuanced.
FOOD PAIRING
Chocolate: Dark chocolate, wealthy and robust varieties, is an excellent pairing with this whisky. The chocolate’s depth complements the whisky’s complexity, creating a harmonious balance.
Nuts: Roasted nuts like peanuts, cashews, and walnuts pair nicely with this Scotch. Their roasted flavor profiles match the whisky’s warming and spicy characteristics.
