Any time a popular brand decides to release a barrel strength version of their standard product, people take extra notice. The common assumption is that barrel proof means better, simply because a higher alcohol concentration should bring enhanced flavors. While we’ve seen examples where this isn’t necessarily the case, including Bulleit’s own regular barrel strength expression, this particular release is anything but. The ability to pick from 4 different barrels really benefited our ability to select a cracker of a barrel and for the price point, you really are getting a super value. Bottled at 104 Proof, this is a great sipper neat and can also enhance any cocktail without overpowering it. For the sticker theme, the “Bite the Bullet” idea practically begged to be used and we’ve kept it very spartan, yet very colorful. The primary sticker really plays well with the color of the bottle and Bulleit’s brand colors, and we hope you like it. Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Brown sugar, burnt sugar, caramel custard, cherry pie, sawdust, cigar box, and a very faint hint of tanning leather.
- Palate: Subtle notes of dates, raisins, and green apple upfront and very quickly goes into the more savory and spicy side of things. Lots of oak, leather, toasted barley, allspice, and freshly cracked black pepper on the midpalate.
- Finish: Long and dry with lingering notes of wintergreen mint, nutmeg, and bitter chocolate.
The charity this barrel selection will be supporting is Gary’s Sinise Foundation and donations will go towards creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities of defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.
