Until the renaissance of new Scotch distilleries began in 2005, Edradour long held the title of Scotland’s smallest distillery. From that miniscule output, a tiny share of the production is peated before distilling this malt carries the name Ballechin . While heavily peated, the peat is light, fragrant, and floral, making it far more approachable than the heavily peated Scotches from Islay. The smoke is absolutely present and presents an extraordinary introduction to smoky Scotches that aren’t overbearing and won’t sear your face off. Or, if a fan of peat, this provides an incredibly unique opportunity to try a scarce, peated Edradour, yielding a different take on a known quantity
